The city is rich in cultural, historical, and religious significance.

A visit to the revered Golden Temple, taking a quick dip in the sacred waters at Shri Durgiana Temple, a solemn stroll through Jalianwalah Bagh, displaying patriotism at the Wagah Border, and many others form the essence of Amritsar.

Amritsar's Gurudwaras retain a special and distinctive significance among these beautiful sites. The Gurudwara Kaulsar Sahib Ji is one such renowned Gurudwara.

About Gurudwara Kaulsar Sahib Ji Amritsar

A sacred Sikh shrine known as Gurudwara Mata Kaulan or Gurudwara Kaulsar Sahib is located behind the Harmandir Sahib, or Golden Temple, in the Punjabi town of Amritsar. It is a historically significant gurudwara in Punjab and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Amritsar.

This Gurudwara bears the name of Bibi Kaulan, a renowned disciple of Guru Har Gobind. The older Sikh community members still remember her kirtans, which she sang passionately every evening.

A pool called Kaulsar Sahib or Kaulsar Sarvor is located next to the Gurdwara Mata Kaulan and takes its name from Bibi Kaulan, a Muslim follower of the Sikh gurus.

#Trivia: Baba Budha Ji, the first head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, oversaw the excavation of Kaulsar, which began in 1624 and was finished in 1627. Kaulsar is one of Amritsar's five sacred sarovars.

Guru Har Gobind recommended followers take a dip in the sacred Kaulsar Sarovar before traveling to the Amrit Sarovar.

#Trivia: The Sarovar is the first shrine to bear a Muslim woman's name.

History of Bibi Kaulan

Bibi Kaulan was a deeply spiritual person who was indifferent to differences in religion. Her father, Qazi of Lahore, had charged her with death because of her devotion to Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.

After she was abandoned, Sant Mian Mir, a local of the same area, surreptitiously transported her to Amritsar, where she lived out the remainder of her days fulfilling religious chores and remaining dedicated to Guru Har Gobind.

Later, she was buried in Gurudwara Kaulan's western section. Bibi Kaulan's commitment to and service of the Gurudwara holds significance in the temple complex.
