Amritsar has always beckoned people from around the world to explore its eternal charm and reconnect with their spiritual selves. With the towering presence of the Golden Temple, aka Harmandir Sahib, you will always see lakhs of people visiting it at any given point.

Besides the glory of the several gurudwaras, there are gorgeous sights that capture your attention, and one such place is Pul Kanjari.

Also known as the Pul Moran, it is a famous tourist spot in Amritsar, popular for its historical significance and architectural beauty. It is associated with the famous Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

About Pul Kanjari Amritsar

The site was built during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the legendary ruler of the Sikh Empire, in the early 19th century. The site served as a stopover for the Maharaja and his royal entourage while they travelled between Lahore and Amritsar.

In the 18th century, Pul Kanjari was a significant commerce centre. It was named after a little bridge built over the canal connecting Amritsar and Lahore by Maharaja Ranjit Singh for his favourite dancer Moran, an artiste from the adjacent village of Makhanpura.

As part of his secular beliefs, the Maharaja built a mosque, a gurudwara, a baoli, and a temple there. Many sceneries and sights from the Hindu scriptures and the Raj Darbar are enshrined inside the dome on the corner of the Baoli. Floral frames are woven across these frescoes.

The Punjab government, the Government of India, and the Ministry of Tourism have refurbished and preserved this ancient site.

Besides its historic significance, Pul Kanjari is known for its serene ambience and picturesque surroundings. The lush greenery, serene water bodies, and beautiful architecture make it a perfect spot for photography and strolls.
